Course Description: To give an initial grounding in the approaches to fatigue design and the testing methods. Inform learners on the main approaches to fatigue design with an emphasis on the ways in which these approaches relate to the fundamental physical aspects of fatigue, and to the requirements of different areas of engineering application.

Learning outcomes
  • Understand related concepts and terminology
  • Describe test methods and interpret results
  • Explain fatigue loading concepts and the use of S-N curves
  • Design products for fatigue resistance using a number of calculated routes
  • Understand and apply the fracture mechanics and strain life approach to fatigue calculations
  • Course programme
Assessment A formative assessment can be provided as part of the course including spot questions and multiple choice tests. All delegates and the sponsoring company will receive test results, with comments on the level of understanding achieved.

Who Should Attend? Typical attendees of this course include; Professionals working in the material science field, engineers and designers of all disciplines interested in gaining a sound understanding of the different fatigue design approaches supported by modern software.
